Local 7-year-old dreams to play alongside UC Barcelona

7-year-old Jaron Couture was selected out of thousands of soccer players to attend a camp with FC Barcelona in Spain but needs help getting there.

As almost 3,000 athletes are living their dream at the Winter Olympics, a local 7-year-old is still following his own.

Jaron Couture was chosen out of thousands to attend a special training camp with FC Barcelona in Spain.

He was 1 out of 9 kids in his age group that will represent the U.S.

"Whenever I wanted to play I wanted to grow up and play professional soccer and I wanted to play on Barcelona," Couture said as he played FIFA in his Barcelona themed room.

He started playing soccer as soon as he could walk.

"He was about two years old and he would just cut through cones like they were butter and like it was nothing at all." Grant Couture, Jaron's dad said. "I had 8 year olds at the time it was and he was just doing the same activities they were with ease."

He quickly started playing at the same level as 11 and 12 year olds.

Couture described the moment he found out the good news.

"He said read the text message," Couture said. "Um it said congratulations you are invited to go play with Barcelona."

He was in the top one percent selected from various camps around the country.

"They called my name for the most valuable player," Couture said.

He will train and play in Barcelona for a little over a week.

"The day of the life of a player basically, they take them to an actual match they meet the players they meet the coaches," Grant Couture said. "They will take them on a tour around Catalonia."

But Couture's family has to pay out of pocket to get him there, so they are asking for donations or business sponsorships.

"This is really a once and a lifetime opportunity to really see that a child could follow his dreams or possibly make a dream," Grant Couture said.

Couture's dad said he will always support his son's goals both on and off the field.

"He's really a nervous person outside of soccer but when he steps onto the field, you can tell some people were born to do stuff," Grant Couture said. "And that's what he was born to do"
