CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Some cool cats made their way to the Coastal Bend this weekend for a purr-fect pageant.
The International Feline Showcase is back in Corpus Christi for a purr-fect weekend of competition at the Omni Hotel.
Nearly 200 cats of up to 50 breeds went head-to-head ...or should we say tail-to-tail for the honor of being crowned 'Best of Class.'
3News caught up with judge Fate Mays to find out what they are looking for when choosing the best-of-the best.
"Every breed has a written standard and so you judge that cat against the written standard and others that may be here of that same breed and then when we're through with all the judging - the long hair and the short hair - we'll bring back our top ten."
The cats who come on top will not be only winners of the weekend-long event. The folks at The Cattery will benefit from the competition as well! In lieu of giving a judge a gift, organizers give a donation to the shelter.
The Cattery will be back at the event Sunday with kitties available for adoption.
