CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If you're still trying to make room for all the gifts Santa left behind, odds are you're considering donating items you no longer need.
Due to the holiday influx, donation centers have been working around the clock to sort through hundreds of bags and boxes.
Goodwill donation attendant Joe Alvarez said that during this time of year, centers tend to see an increase in toy donations. He said that residents are getting rid of the old to make room for the new.
"We get a bunch of toys, right before Christmas, lots and lots of toys," he said.
While people are dropping off donations, Alvarez said that not everyone takes a receipt upon leaving. Something he said could potentially leave money on the table.
"Maybe out of 40, 50 people to come I might give out 5 or 6 a morning," he said.
Alvarez said that high foot traffic isn't only seen leading up to Christmas but also lingers for a few months into the new year as residents begin to dismantle some of that holiday cheer.
"January, Febuary, March, we'll get people breaking down their Christmas trees. We get Christmas trees, all the ornaments. They say 'You know what,' we'll throw these away and get new ones next year," he said.
Alvarez said that donating can be a powerful tool for the community and that the location on Alameda will be open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
