CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — When you look back on your education, do you have a favorite teacher in mind?
Today, one Coastal Bend teacher is at the top of the charts, taking part in America's Favorite Teacher contest.
Juan Salazar was nominated by his wife and a couple of parents at his school. In January, he was recognized as one of 3NEWS' 3STAR Teachers! Now, he's hoping to win a nation-wide race.
You can vote for Mr. Salazar every day here: Juan salazar | America's Favorite Teacher (americasfavteacher.org)
If he wins the title of America's Favorite Teacher, he will receive $25,000 and a trip to Hawaii.
Salazar was nominated among 200 other educators in the United States, and recently survived the latest round of cuts in the race!
In fact, he is currently in third place! He says that he now needs local help to win the contest.
You can vote for free once daily to help support his journey, which he says is about more than just him.
"It would mean a lot because whenever I'm recognized, my students are recognized, and we are the best kept secret in town where I'm at at Dr. Garza Charter School," he said. "To have my students receive that recognition for all of their hard work would mean a lot to me, because it's not about me being recognized, it's about my students being recognized."
