Loki the tiger celebrates 7th birthday at East Texas sanctuary

Sue Tygielski, a senior director for the Black Beauty Ranch, said Loki is now living happily and healthily in the company of others of his species.

MURCHISON, Texas — A young tiger rescued from a Houston-area home five years ago celebrated a major milestone Friday.

Loki the tiger turned seven years old. His handlers celebrated his birthday at the Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison. Handlers believe Loki was around two years old when he was rescued, and is assumed to be someone's pet or the victim of neglect.

Sue Tygielski, a senior director for the Black Beauty Ranch, said Loki is now living happily and healthily in the company of others of his species.

"He has he lives in his own habitat. It's very spacious, but he is surrounded by female Tigers that are in other habitats," Tygielski said. "And so he definitely enjoys talking with them and spying on them and but he definitely rules the roost at the ranch."

She added that his favorite hobby is swimming with his favorite toys. You can meet Loki at Black Beauty Ranch, a 14,000 acre sanctuary housing more than 600 domestic and exotic animals rescued in the U.S., by booking a tour on their website.
