London ISD's Bond 2022 projects to be complete before new school year begins

That bond also got the district a brand-new sports complex!

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

Every campus at London ISD will soon have a new look. This comes after the community voted in favor of a $96.1 million bond package back in 2022.

Superintendent Dr. Judi Whitis said the community's support for that bond was much needed for a district that only continues to grow.

“We see nine to eleven percent growth every single year," Whitis said. "We want our kiddos to have the best learning environments and for our staff to have great places to work, our community to have excellent places to come, be together and see the good things that are happening in London ISD."

Work at all three campuses includes the addition of 14 new third and fourth grade classrooms, seven new classrooms at the high school along with three science labs and a brand-new cafeteria that will hold up to 450 students.

All projects are expected to be complete before the new school year starts on July 17.

That bond also got the district a brand-new sports complex. Director of operations and coach, Ron Lawver said their outdoor facilities have come a long way since he first got to London twelve years ago.

"We were here when we used to have to practice in front of the school," Lawver said. "It's a parking lot now, but it used to be grass, so for us, as well as the kids, who would come out to Friday night football games and see a grass field, to see a turf field now is just amazing."

Lawver also remembers a time when London's baseball, softball and track teams used to have to utilize CCISD’s facilities to practice. It's safe to say that those days are now long gone.

"It's great that we now have some facilities, on the athletic side, where we can host some events and schools can come and see what we have to offer," he said.
