Long-serving CCPD Cpt. Perfecto Rodriguez Jr. dies at 88

Rodriguez, served the department for 32 years. He was the first Mexican-American recommended by the CCPD for training at the National FBI Academy.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A longtime member of the Corpus Christi Police Department has died. 

The family of retired police Cpt. Perfecto Rodriguez Jr. told 3NEWS about his death this week. 

Rodriguez, a U.S. Air Force veteran, served the department for 32 years. He was the first Mexican-American recommended by the CCPD for training at the National FBI Academy.

Rodriguez graduated from Del Mar College in 1971, and 3NEWS featured him when his grandson graduated from Del Mar in 2021. He chose to wear the same cap and gown that his grandfather wore half a century ago.

Rodriguez was 88 years old. Services will be held at Seaside Funeral Home Cemetery on Saturday at 9 a.m.
