CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Police Department has released new details on an incident that left several parked cars along a S. Alameda and Greenway neighborhood damaged last Friday.
While no arrests were made at the time of the incident due to the drivers having "injuries sustained and medical attention needed," two men in their early 20's were cited for driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol by a minor.
Police say a 22-year-old man was speeding west on South Alameda in a gray SUV when he hit a silver passenger car, driven by a 20-year-old man, from behind.
Both drivers reportedly showed signs of being under the influence.
The collision caused both vehicles to leave the roadway, hitting a fire hydrant and three parked cars in the 500 block of Greenway Drive. The collision with the parked cars also caused damage to a house and fence in the neighborhood.
Officers initially arrived to the scene around 2:20 a.m., at some point after they located the two drivers, they were advised that a man and woman fled the scene of the accident on foot. They were later located in the 800 block of Belmeade Drive.
Medics transported both drivers to a local hospital with injuries. The passengers of both vehicles were also transported to local hospitals by medics with minor injuries.
The homeowners in the area knew of the crash when we first reported it but declined to talk with 3NEWS on camera.
This is a developing story. 3NEWS will provide updates as they become available.
