CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department is investigating the cause of a fatal car accident after a man crashed into a palm tree in the 5100 block of Weber Road Saturday.
Officers were dispatched to the incident near the Weber location of the Carisma Car Wash shortly after 11:00 p.m. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
CCPD said they arrived to find the man and his passenger had struck a palm tree on the east side of the road. Investigators later found that the car was traveling west on Brett Street before it turned south onto Weber Road. The vehicle then turned and drove through the sidewalk and grass area on the east side of the road where it then struck the tree.
Police said the passenger was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
It is unknown at this time what caused the driver to turn and drive onto the sidewalk striking the tree. This crash is still under investigation.
