CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Independent School District announced Friday that it has received a donation of 17 digital classroom pianos for the Metro Elementary School of Design.
The $29,000 gift was donated to the school by philanthropy group, Puente de Maravillas. It will replace the elementary's current instruments.
Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez said the district is grateful to Puente de Maravillas for the gift, which will help improve education for their students.
"Having suitable pianos for music instruction are vital for developing our students' talents and appreciation for music. This donation will have a tremendously positive impact," he said.
The new professional-grade digital pianos will allow every music classroom at Metro Elementary to have an upgraded high-quality instrument for students to learn and practice on.

First in Family event
The 12th Annual First in Family event will be on May 1 at 6 p.m. The event at the Veterans Memorial High School auditorium will recognize the high school seniors who are the first in their families to graduate high school.
Senior Job Fair
Ray High School will host a job fair for our Senior high school students. The fair is May 3 from 10 – Noon.
Hope Symposium
The HOPE Mental Health Symposium will be on May 4 from 9 a.m. to Noon at Moody High School. There will be breakout sessions, community vendors and student performances. Sessions will be on coping skills, self-care and mental health awareness.
TIDES Ceremony
Mary Grett Transition Center will have its TIDES Ceremony of Completion for the Class of 2024 at the TAMUCC Performing Arts Center on May 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Mariachi Concert
Ray High School’s Mariachi Dia de las Madres Concert will be at Ray High School on May 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Special Olympics Banquet
The Fiesta themed Special Olympics All Star Banquet will be on May 15 at 6 p.m. at Carroll High School. The banquet will celebrate CCISD’s Special Olympic athletes.
