Fire crews put out early morning blaze at abandoned home, once site of dog pound

Few details are known about the cause of the fire, but crews say the home was vacant.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Fire crews are finishing up their work on the scene over by Navigation Boulevard after putting out an early morning blaze. 

The fire started around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday and was called in by a next-door resident. Fire officials say the building was abandoned and in poor condition prior to the fire, The building was once the site of a dog pound, but has been abandoned for several years now, The structure was vacant and there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. 

3NEWS obtained exclusive video of the blaze.  

The fire was extinguished in about 45 minutes, and crews were expected to be putting out hotspots throughout the morning.

CCFD says it was a defensive fire-- and crews are still trying to find a cause for the blaze.
