CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A mother accidentally ran over her child Monday morning after dropping him off at school.
Authorities said it happened around 8 a.m. Monday at Crockett Elementary School off Greenwood near Baldwin.
Police said the mother was dropping off her 12-year-old son at the school and when he got out of the car, he dropped his backpack and some items fell out. When he bent down to gather those items, his mom drove off and ran him over.
"In a situation like this, what you should do is probably get out of the car with your child and make sure that he or she is clear of the vehicle and on their way to class before you decide to take off," CCPD Officer Richard Olden said.
Fortunately, the child is expected to be okay. He was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital to be checked out. Police said the mother will not face any charges.
