CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One person is dead after a multiple vehicle accident that occurred on Friday night. The accident involved three vehicles near the 9600 block of State Highway 361, according to Corpus Christi Police Department officials.
According to a CCPD press release, around 8:21 p.m. on Friday, officers were dispatched to the 9600 area of Highway 361 to respond to a major car accident involving multiple vehicles.
When officers arrived, they said that they located a deceased male driver in one of the cars. The highway was shut down and follow-up traffic investigators were called to assist.
According to a CCPD press release, investigators determined that a vehicle was traveling south bound on HWY 361 and did not stay in their lane, striking a second vehicle that was traveling north bound. This caused the second vehicle to swerve off road and flip over, landing on the side of the road.
The first car continued south on the northbound lane and struck a third vehicle.
The driver in the first vehicle was pronounced dead on scene. The second vehicle carried 6 people, and the third carried 5. All occupants were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver in the first vehicle was at fault and the only person in the vehicle. The highway was closed for several hours during the investigation.
