CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The NAACP of Corpus Christi wants to help residents fill up their gas tanks this weekend.
It's the organization's second gas giveaway in partnership with Valero.
Other non-profits will also be on site to help spread information on community development and interaction.
The gas giveaway idea came to light last year when gas prices were skyrocketing, and organizers said it was a huge success.
"A lady actually was so thankful because that fuel card actually allowed her to get to dialysis the next two weeks for her parents,” said NAACP President Jeremy Coleman. “We had other stories where gentlemen actually ran out of gas right then and had to used that card to go get gas and then come back and fill it up. There’s definitely a need for a portion of our community that relies on something many of us take advantage of, and that’s basic fuel to handle day-to-day business."
The giveaway will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, and ends when the 300th person receives their gas card.
The event will take place across from La Retama Library Downtown. CCPD will be on site to help with traffic control.
