CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas President for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Gary Bledsoe, national board members and city leaders gathered Monday to welcome the organization's annual convention to Corpus Christi.
The breakfast was a part of a three-day preparation ahead of the NAACP 2024 Texas State Conference that will take place right here in Corpus Christi from October 9-12.
Bledsoe said the convention has not been held in Corpus Christi since 2013. He wants people to know that the NAACP is for everyone.
"The NAACP is you and that we've always been a diverse organization, that we've always had the Jewish members, other white members and Latino members, and we encourage people to come and work with us because we're trying to make our state a better place and make our nation a better place," he said.
Mayor Paulette Guajardo was also in attendance and told 3NEWS that she is excited that the NAACP chose our city for the conference.
