New Carroll High School campus coming with passage of CCISD bond

85-percent of the 2018 bond is being put toward the rebuilding of Carroll High School, which is at the proposed site on Weber and Saratoga.

Corpus Christi (KIII News) — One race that was on the minds of many Corpus Christi voters during the 2018 general elections was the Corpus Christi Independent School District's 2018 bond, which will give $210 million to the district to build a new Caroll High School and other unique incentives.

85-percent of the 2018 bond is being put toward the rebuilding of Carroll High School, which is at the proposed site on Weber and Saratoga. The goal is for the school to have a bigger campus with new technology and security features.

In August, CCISD Police Chief Kirby Warnke said the current high school's open winged campus is outdated and that the top priority of this enclosed new campus is safety for students and staff.

"Here anybody can walk on and off campus. No one here is patrolling or guarding," senior Alexis Gonzalez said. "It's kind of falling apart a little bit. Animals are able to come on and off campus. You'll see a cat, dog, raccoon."

"School is unique with all of the art on wall. They're building a new ROTC and then they have aquatic science," senior Hailey Lopez said.

"Why are they doing construction here, they're fixing up Carroll and then they want to redo another school. It's a waste of money. They need to get more tutors. Pay teachers a little bit more," a concerned parent said.

Some students said the new campus would help with flow of traffic in the morning and afternoons.

There has been no word as to when construction for the new campus will begin.
