One person dead after trying to evade Brooks County Sheriff's deputies Wednesday

A person reportedly was driving a truck that had been stolen from the Houston area without the headlights on, which caused the crash.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One person is dead after trying to run from Brooks County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night.

Department of Public Safety troopers said Thursday that at about 8:26 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy was chasing a 2016 Ford F250 truck that was reported stolen from the Houston area.

The driver, who was traveling without headlights on to avoid detection, crashed into a guardrail, which caused the deputy giving chase to crash into the truck, sparking a fire.

The deputy, 27-year-old Jose Lemus, and a dispatcher who was also in the car, 27-year-old Cruz Alberto Guel, were taken to a hospital in Kingsville with minor injuries.
