Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The 10th annual Coastal Bend Day of Giving came to its conclusion at midnight Wednesday, and Kiii-TV is pleased to announce that organizers say they have broken records.
More than $2.5 million and counting were raised in just 24 hours during the Day of Giving. That money is going to 50 different nonprofit organizations in the Coastal Bend, including the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, Metro Ministries and the Coastal Bend Food Bank.
Between those three organizations alone, more than $300,000 was raised according to the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, who organizes the event each year. Their goal is to bring the community together for a good cause.
"You don't get to that kind of result without everybody in the community working together," Community Foundation President and CEO Karen Selim said.
Selim said they plan to distribute the money on Dec. 6, and the money will stretch until April of next year. All the money is going back into the community to help those who need it most.
Kiii-TV would like to thank everyone who donated and took part in this year's event!
