CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Wednesday the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman recovered Tuesday as 58-year-old Lynna Koehn.
Koehn from Blanco and an unidentified man of Port Lavaca were in a truck that was in submerged into the water off the Port Aransas south jetty Monday night.
Investigators have officially deemed the incident as an accident.
According to Port Aransas Police Department officials, Koehn was driving half on the sidewalk and half on the sand when her vehicle became stuck. Once able to move the truck was launched into the water on the other side of the sidewalk.
Port Aransas Police Chief Scott Burroughs told 3NEWS the woman was found inside of the truck after it was pulled to shore around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Resident Ava Ryan said it's unusual for cars and trucks to go into the water from the jetty.
"Very weird," she said. "Now they drop boats and trucks in the water all the time at the boat ramp, but never heard of anything like this happening here."
Crews search the water for missing woman Tuesday morning:
Witnesses reportedly saw a truck drive over the south jetty and into the water near Port Aransas at around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
"Shortly after arriving here we recovered a male subject that came out of the water," Burroughs said. "He had escaped from the vehicle and had gotten onto shore here and advised us that there was a female still trapped in the vehicle and we've been searching for her ever since."
CCPD divers conducted an assessment of the area Monday night in order to find the missing woman, but said conditions were not good for a search.
Onlookers were seen watching first responders as they pulled the vehicle from the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, with several saying they were surprised when they heard about the submersion.
"Shocking," said Linda Edy. "You don't usually see this kind of stuff."
Police Chief Scott Burroughs says it appears the truck crossed the parking lot and drove up over the sidewalk into the water.
When asked if alcohol was involved, he said officers are still investigating.
The woman's body was found in the front seat once the truck was pulled onto land. Her identity is expected to be released pending an investigation by police and the medical examiner.
