The Port Aransas Police Department suffered some severe damage to its headquarters as a direct result of Hurricane Harvey, and now they are in the process of setting up a temporary building to serve as its headquarters.
In the past, the police department has seen as many as 100,000 people in one day during spring break.
"Usually the bigger weekend, the second weekend is a little busier than the beginning of the week, and as the week progresses it gets busier," chief Scott Burroughs said.
The Police Department is also in the process of rebuilding their headquarters which suffered serious damage.
"So we have a temporary building that is going to be erected," Burroughs said. "We have a temporary building right here.
Police do not expect controlling the crowds to be any more difficult than previous years.
"Generally the hardcore partiers," Burroughs said. "They come regardless of the conditions rain or shine no matter how hot or cold it may get.
As far a permanent headquarters for police.
"We're looking at design modifications that will elevate the building a little bit, perhaps some underground parking with the main structure on top of it," Burroughs said.
But the department said they have a lot of work ahead of them.
"We haven't even started with architects yet and who knows where the funding is going to come from," Burroughs said.
On Thursday police will have a spring break kick-off planning meeting with the City, DPS, and Parks and Wildlife.
"Enjoy our beaches, our beaches were not harmed by the hurricane because it came up from the back," Burroughs said. "The beaches are in beautiful shape, and we can sure use the tourism dollars.
