Port Aransas sees steady tourism numbers ahead of Hurricane Beryl

Some visitors aren't letting the possible threat of Hurricane Beryl interrupt their Fourth of July plans.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While many Coastal Bend communities are keeping an eye on the tropics as Hurricane Beryl makes its way through, some still have their sights set on the beach.

Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Brett Stawar said the upcoming holiday weekend is a huge money maker for the coastal town.

"Fourth of July is the biggest holiday season of the year for Port Aransas and tourism," he said. "Biggest economic impact and the biggest visitation."

Stawar said that while he and his team are monitoring the storm, check-in's have been consistent.

"In lodging alone it's more than a $7 million impact for us this week," he said.

"We're ready," Stawar said. "The city is ready, the departments are all meeting, you know, we're keeping all of our emergency services up and ready."

Jaylee and her family have been visiting Port Aransas Beach for the past decade for their annual family vacation summer trip. Some of them coming from as far as Dallas, El Paso and even Tulsa, Oklahoma. While the family has been monitoring Hurricane Beryl's activity, they say the storm will not impede their plans.

"We've been keeping track of it, we're trying to beat it out though. We'll be out of here by the time it hits," they said.

The family told 3NEWS that they are going to enjoy everything that Port Aransas has to offer.

"Spikeball, fishing, we ate some great food; some Grumbles and we're going to Crazy Cajun later," they said.
