CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The opening date has been set for Portland's newest retailer, Target.
As we've reported -- the store's new location will be bigger than the one in Corpus Christi and will be located along Highway 181 and Broadway Boulevard.
The store is currently in the processes of hiring and training.
3NEWS spoke with one of the developers on the project who told us to clear the calendar for August 18, the goal opening date for the new Target.
At the site, a fence surrounds the large building where signage is already up. The developer said final touches are being made inside and outside the store which will include a pharmacy, groceries and even a Starbucks.
McLeod-Cobb Investments is behind the one-million-dollar, 45-acre project that will also feature restaurants, retail and even residential units.
"Raising Canes is nearly finished, should open any day now, probably a couple more weeks, and then we are under construction ourselves next to Raising Canes, Chipotle, James Avery, Aspen Dental, Five Guys and Wells Fargo, those tenants will open late this year or early next," Michalel McLeod-Cobb said.
With new development, comes new job opportunities.
Job listings can already be found online for Raising Canes and the Target store.
Target's website listed just about every position needed from cashiers to specialty sales, to general merchandise and food for the Starbucks inside.
Starting hourly rate is $15 an hour.
"Target is known historically for being a supportive good employer to work for so we are very excited," McLeod-Cobb said.
"There are about 14,000 jobs available in the Coastal Bend region," Xena Mercado with Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend said.
Mercado is among those closely watching the growth of new employment opportunities on the Portland side of the bridge.
"San Patricio County in general, there are a lot of opportunities growth, especially with hospitality and tourism," she said.
The developer said they are now working to bring in additional retailers to the area and said it's only a matter of time before more announcements are made.
