CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — 1:28 p.m. update:
Flour Bluff ISD has had their power restored after a powerline in the Laguna Shores and Graham Road area was downed on Friday morning.
"We are speaking with AEP now, once we have more details we will send another update. Our focus is the safety of our students and faculty, and we are working on getting all accurate information out in one place, and not send multiple bits of information. We thank you for your patience and understanding," read a comment addressed to parents posted at 1:17 p.m.
Nueces County ESD 2 officials took to social media to share video of a downed power line in the Flour Bluff neighborhoods shortly after noon.
An AEP outage map shows that 5, 084 customers lost power around 11:45 a.m., shortly before Nueces County ESD 2 posted the news. That number has jumped to 5,218 outages as of a 1:25 p.m. update of this article.
The fire department reported a small grassfire breaking out in the video shared to Facebook.
AEP officials reportedly told the district that power would be back within about 30 minutes at approximately 12:40 p.m. Campuses were placed on a standard response protocol to hold students in their rooms. The service interruption had a reportedly minor impact on student's lunch schedules and campuses are expected to return to a normal schedule shortly.
