CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In effort to help keep residents safe, Robstown Police Department is starting a blitz project that will bring agencies from throughout the department around town in search of homes that appear to be neglected.
Robstown Police Chief Mike Tamez said it's preventative maintenance that goes a long way to help stop situations like the one we saw earlier this week, where an elderly man lost his life after being swarmed by bees while he was doing yard work.
Signs of neglect could include high grass and damaged homes and property.
"It takes a little bit of personal responsibility to keep these places clean, up to par and safe, because when we don't unfortunately this is the end result," Tamez said.
The police chief told 3NEWS they are going to start issuing citations to homes they find ruined due to neglect.
The initiative is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks.
