ROCKPORT, Texas — Community members in Rockport spent the rainy Tuesday morning bringing new meaning to the term, 'fashion forward,' and it was all for a great cause!
The Children's Coalition of Aransas County combined forces with Castaways Thrift Shop for their annual fashion show luncheon, raising awareness and funds for CCAC's mission.
CCAC is a nonprofit that was created after Hurricane Harvey, when a group of children's ministries and community leaders got together to address the needs and various ways to support children and families left devastated by the storm.
Since then, they've continued to create a safe space and extra source of support for families in need in the Aransas County area and beyond.
Tuesday's event recruited city leaders, dignitaries and influential members of the community to participate as models for the fundraising event.
"All proceeds from today's event go to the children's coalition, however people can purchase their outfits from Castaways," CCAC Executive Director Dianne Miller Nielsen said.
"One of the things that I love about this community is the spirit, the community spirit, the coming together of organizations and individuals to just give and support one another!"
For those interested in volunteering some time to community service, Nielsen shared that the coalition has plenty of opportunities year-round to give back, but especially new ones on the horizon they'll be needing even more volunteers for.
"If you have some time on your hands and want to volunteer, boy can we put you to work," she said. "There's a lot of opportunities and I'd love to talk with anyone who's interested in helping."
