CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Roxanne Palacios, the woman accused of driving the wrong way on the Harbor Bridge and causing the deaths of two people in 2022, will face trial within 60 days.
148th District Court Judge David Klein ordered Palacios’ attorneys to be ready for trial within that window Tuesday morning.
Palacios was arrested in 2022 for driving the wrong way on the bridge, crashing into and killing San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher Betsy Mandujano and her passenger Mathew Banda.
She is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.
A third person in a separate vehicle also was seriously injured in the crash.
Police said the night of the accident, Palacios had just left a company party where she had been drinking.
She faces two counts of felony intoxication manslaughter.
Since that accident, several changes have been made to put a stop to wrong way drivers on the old Harbor Bridge, including water barriers installed on exits to prevent wrong-way drivers.
A new traffic pattern also was designed by TxDOT.
