The Salvation Army of Kingsville looking for donations ahead possible freeze

The non-profit is accepting all types of warm clothing, blankets, heaters and food

KINGSVILLE, Texas —

Monday will bring chilly temperatures to the Coastal Bend, and may have those less fortunate struggling to get what they need to stay warm.

The director of The Salvation Army of Kingsville, Steve Martinez said that even though it has only been around for about a year, the community has shown immense support for the non-profit.

Now, he's calling on the community to make sure every family has what they need when braving next week's cold front.

"Some of these families are almost without light in some homes, because it's been a tough year for some of these families, so whatever we can do right now with this cold front to keep these families warm, we're trying to do our best," Martinez said.

Ahead of the cold front and possible freeze the Coastal Bend will see next week, Martinez said the organization is looking for donations for families in need.

"There are some families that are in need of winter clothes," he said. "From jackets to warmups. Other stuff that we need are blankets and heaters, so anything that will help a family stay warm during this time. Any donations of canned goods and food that we can give out would be a blessing as well."

Martinez also happens to be a pastor at King's Way Family Church, where the Salvation Army is currently housed. He said the church will do whatever they can to help the Kingsville community.

That includes using the gym at the church as a shelter where the Salvation Army is currently being housed.

Guy Espinosa once had to lean on the Salvation Army to get back on his feet. Now as an assistant at King's Way, he's returning the favor.

“Salvation Army is there to help you," Espinosa said. "They helped me out before when I was struggling, so I know salvation is for real."

Espinosa and Martinez were both around to see the success of the Salvation Army's Angel Tree project in Kingsville.

Martinez said that in December, Kingsville came together to make sure one 1000 had gifts for Christmas.

“If we did it for Christmas, we can meet that same need when this cold front is coming, we can do it again to help those in need," Martinez said. "I'm thankful for this generous community."
