CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Salvation Army of the Coastal Bend distributed 150 box fans for those that may need a little more help staying this Summer.
"We're hoping that it helps cut down on electricity bills if you get a fan going, if you don't have A/C working in your house properly, and just hoping it helps people stay cool during these hot days," said Development Coordinator for The Salvation Army, Abbie Cieslik.
Home health provider Linda José was able to leave with a fan for her client and one for her mother.
"For the elderly, right now it's so hot. A lot of them don't have fans or even A/C, so this really helps," José said.
Sandra Sanchez also picked up a fan. She said she's grateful for the relief the fan distribution will provide -- not just for her, but for others in need.
"It's real good that everybody gets one. It's really really hot outside and when it rains it's gonna get much hotter, so we really need one big time," she said.
Last year the need for fans in the community was so great that the Salvation Army held two fan distributions. Cieslik said that if need be, they will do the same this year.
