CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Sarah Hoss, the woman accused of the wrong-way DWI death of a motorcyclist in 2022, began part of her jail term Monday after pleading guilty to the crime in June.
Hoss began serving 60 days straight in the Nueces County Jail earlier this week. After that time is up, she will be released into the custody of the adult probation department to determine when she can serve the remaining 90 days. That time will not need to be done consecutively.
Hoss was arrested after driving the wrong way and causing the head-on crash on SPID near Waldron Road, which fatally injured 50-year-old Eutimio "Tim" Barrera.
Hoss originally was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, but accepted a plea deal that reduced the charge to criminally negligent homicide, and a two-year state jail sentence was reduced to five years' probation.
In addition to the 150 total days jail time she will be required to serve in the Nueces County Jail, 250 hours of community service and will be subject to a curfew and other DWI conditions, as well as having an interlock breathalyzer installed in her vehicle. She also will have to pay a $2500 fine.
