CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Flour Bluff ISD parent told 3NEWS some of the district's buses do not have working air conditioners.
On Tuesday, 3NEWS caught up with the district and a car dealership that stepped up to help.
It started with a social media post from a parent complaining that her kids were overheated on the way home because the air conditioning systems on their Flour Bluff school buses were not working.
That's when Assistant Director of Operations Zach Graf stepped up to reassure parents.
"We had received a lot of emails, phone calls, a little bit of social media present from parents telling us that, you know, we had hot buses," he said.
Graf responded to the parents' concerns by posting that the district is aware of the problem and issued the order that all affected school buses keep their windows open while carrying kids home.
"So we were able to hire a full-time A/C mechanic," Graf said. "We've been extremely diligent in applying for grants. We received a grant to replace five buses."
While 3NEWS was talking with Graf, a truck pulled up with many cases of water from the Allen Samuels auto dealership in Aransas Pass.
"It doesn't cost much right? But to the kids it means everything, to the community it means everything" Dan Gonzales with Allen Samuels said. "So we want to be there for them and definitely help them out."
School staff and dealership employees went to work stacking the cases of water to put on the buses for the students' trips home.
Graf said the community always comes to the aid of the students.
"We reached out this morning to the community and the outpouring has been incredible," he said. "We've received three pallets of water from the community and we're going to get an ice chest on all of our school buses this afternoon and provide for our students and that we can help keep them cool every single day."
3NEWS checked with the other top four school districts in the Coastal Bend and all run air conditioning on all their buses.
