Second Corpus Christi fisherman catches tagged redfish in STAR Tournament

When an angler catches a tagged redfish in the STAR Tournament, they must complete a lie detector test to verify the catch.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The CCA Texas State of Texas Angler's Rodeo Tournament kicked off May 25 and already two lucky fishermen have reeled in the catch of a lifetime.

The STAR Tournament spans the entire Texas Gulf Coast, bringing anglers out to the water in search of a prize catch -- a tagged redfish can win you thousands of dollars in scholarships or even a boat and truck combo.

Corpus Christi native Luis DeLeon took home a brand new Ford F-150, 23’ Haynie Bigfoot, Mercury marine outboard, and Coastline trailer package.

According to CCA Texas STAR Tournament, DeLeon is no stranger to catching a tagged redfish, on July 1, 2018 he caught his first redfish but did not see the tag due to algae covering it.

DeLeon couldn’t even fill out the paper because he was shaking so badly.
