Kingsville (KIII News) — The Shop with a Cop program went down to Kingsville Friday for their first of two trips during their program.
"What is the most exciting part so far finding clothes," 10-year-old Michelle Marcos said.
Every year the local Shop with a Cop program helps out hundreds of students from the Coastal Bend. The group gives participants a limit of around $100 to spend on things they may need.
According to officers, Shop with a Cop is a way to create a lasting relationship with young children.
"I want them to know that we are someone they can come to when they are feeling stressed or in trouble...and not to shy away from us when they see us and just bridge that gap and create a better bond," Kleberg County constable Jesse Rivera said.
Shop with a Cop will be back in Kingsville next week to take students from the Riviera and Ricardo school districts on a shopping spree.
The group hopes to help 80 students from Kleberg County and 500 across the Coastal Bend.
