SINTON, Texas — Sinton High School spent Thursday night celebrating the dedication to education and the legacy of the 'never-ending S.'
This year's Academic Achievers Banquet was a special, one-of-a-kind event for students and alumni.
The Sinton ISD and Chamber of Commerce invited residents and alumni to walk through the halls of the high school one last time before it's replaced by a completely new campus over the summer.
Demolition is scheduled to begin mid June, with the teachers' last day on campus set for May 28. Crews will then get to work replacing the school with a brand new model for students to step into on August 14.
The replacement comes after the current high school saw students and teachers come and go for 57 years.
At the event, Sinton ISD and community leaders shared what it meant to bring the community together to reminisce, reflect and swap stories of their time as Pirates.
"It's good that we're recognizing our current seniors and our high school students for all of their accolades in this last year at the old high school building," Superintendent Dr. Anthony Reddock said, "but it's also fantastic bringing everyone back up to the campus that wanted to come and visit, look around, and relive their memories."
President and CEO of Sinton Chamber of Commerce Estevan Guerra echoing Dr. Reddock's sentiments, calling the event the ultimate homecoming.
"We're seeing every single generation come from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 2000's, and we have so much memorabilia throughout the hallways right now," Guerra shared. "Seeing all the beautiful things that teachers have been able to bring and the students. It's fun to just have that moment."
Following the community walk-through and banquet were the awards honoring the top 10 students in the junior and senior classes.
Those awards were presented by our very own Sinton Pirate alumni Leslie Adami, who was thrilled to be part of such a special evening.
The district also recognized the Alumni of the Year, Eileen Troup, who just recently retired.
We want to wish a very big congratulations to all of the honorees and students. Go Pirates!
