H-E-B has announced the passing of Howard Butt, Jr., the brother of H-E-B CEO Charles Butt. Butt died at Sunday night at the age of 89. Howard Butt, Jr. served as president of the H.E. Butt Foundation and Vice Chairman of the H-E-B Board for several decades.
Howard Jr. was the oldest son of H-E-B founder Howard Butt Sr. and began his career working in the family business. He went on to college at Baylor University in Waco and graduated in 1947 with a business degree.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of my brother, Howard,” said Charles Butt, H-E-B CEO. “His decades of inspired leadership, philanthropy and humanitarian efforts will forever be missed by our family and those he impacted across the U.S.”
H-E-B grocery stores are found all over the state of Texas and is the largest Family-owned business in Texas. The current leadership with the company include Chairman and CEO Charles Butt, Howard Butt III and Stephen Butt.
