The Harbor Bridge Project announced this week that all southbound lanes of IH37 from Buddy Lawrence Drive to Staples Street will be closed over the weekend. The closure comes ahead of what the HBP is calling a major milestone traffic shift.

The southbound lanes from Buddy Lawrence Drive to Staples Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. over the weekend and into Monday.

The city said motorists heading southbound on IH 37 to the Bayfront area will be detoured at Buddy Lawrence Drive, continue on the frontage road, turn right onto Port Avenue, turn left onto Comanche Street, turn right to enter southbound SH 286, make a U-turn at Tarleton Avenue, and head northbound on SH 286 to the northbound US 181 and Staples Street ramps.

Drivers may have already seen heavy equipment and construction vehicles working around the south interchange ahead of the weekend closure. The HBP said a detour will be in place for motorists from Buddy Lawrence Drive to the frontage road. They said commuters can expect improved connectivity as we complete all roadwork structures and open new routes in phases over the coming months.

Drivers should always make sure to slow down in construction zones. You can take a look at some of what you might see on the roadway this weekend here
