CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi International Airport officials have announced some good news concerning future airline activity.
The airline industry has been operating with reduced schedules for the past two months as the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the United States, forcing airports to shut down.
The flight schedule reductions are slated to continue throughout the summer, according to airline industry officials.
According to Corpus Christi International Airport officials, Southwest Airlines plans to increase its number of flights later this year.
Southwest Airlines has published schedules through November and December, which not only restore those reduced flights at CCIA but include additional flights as well.
Beginning in November, Southwest Airlines plans to operate 25 flights per week between CCIA and Houston Hobby Airport.
Airport officials say in December Southwest will offer 28 flights a week as compared to the 21 offered this time last year.
The Corpus Christi International Airport has seen an increase in the number of people coming through the terminal.
“We’re seeing promising signs that people are ready to start getting on airplanes again," said Fred Segundo, Director of Aviation at CCIA.
“When it’s time to book your travel, we encourage people to consider flying to CCIA," said Segundo.
“The more we use the service that we currently have, the greater our chances are of getting more service in the future," added Segundo.
Airport officials say their reduced schedule, for now, has Southwest at two flights a day to Hobby Airport.U
United Airlines is also at two flights per day in and out of the Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport, and American Airlines is operating an average of three flights per day to Dallas Fort Worth.
Booking a flight from the CCIA to airports in major metropolitan areas is very convenient and can save a traveler time.
