'STEM Day by the Bay' helps Coastal Bend kids envision a future in STEM

"Just getting STEM and science out into the community and getting kids excited about it," said Karen Muehlbauer.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Many families took their kids out to participate in 'STEM Day by the Bay' at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.

This hands-on experience is important for kids to learn more about different careers and discover what they want to do in the future. All in a fun way.

There were plenty of hands-on activities, including slime making and ice cream creation.

Karen Muehlbauer, a technical director at Valero is proud to sponsor the event.

"Just getting STEM and science out into the community and getting kids excited about it. With stem and especially with engineering, it's not a career that you see everyday," said Muehlbauer.

Gender disparities are also common to see in STEM fields.  As a result, the event was aimed to enable young girls to explore and envision themselves taking on STEM roles.

The Media and Advertising Manager at the Museum of Science and History Paulina Manseau was excited about how all ages were able to participate and discover their potential careers.

"I just hope they have a lot of fun but also learn something and maybe it will spark curiosity or maybe something in the future that they want to do when they grow up," said Manseau.

Event organizers worked hard in setting up today's event and getting everything ready. They hope the event will occur next year as well to continue to help kids imagine all of the possibilities that the future holds.
