CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In Aransas Pass police are controlling who gets to come in to the Bay Harbor subdivision. That after a very unusual gas leak occurred over on Seaview Street Wednesday.
County emergency management was out here as well as the fire department and gas leak company experts.
Police Chief Eric Blanchard was watching the one and only way in or out of this exclusive subdivision after calling for an evacuation as a partially-underground 250 gallon gas tank was leaking frozen propane.
"Right down this street here right after 9:11 this morning emergency crews the fire department were sent over here for a gas leak and thinking it's a run-of-the-mill gas leak no big issue of anything but it is a significant issue," Blanchard said.
A valve on that tank had broken and with that frozen propane pouring out it would take hours for it to stop unless repairs could be made sooner.
"I live here," one resident, Judy, told 3NEWS. "That's my house right there I live there. They were there when I left to go run some errands and I was just coming back."
That resident was allowed to go back in because she did not live on Seaview where everyone on that street was asked to evacuate.
"If the potential for any type of explosion is there then as a safety precaution we need to evacuate at least a portion of that area," City Manager Gary Edwards said.
In the end, the propane leak was allowed to run until the tank was emptied. Luckily, there were no injuries and everyone was able to return to their homes.
