Sunset Bell at Sunset Island rings in hope and joy for kids with pediatric cancer

Sunset Island CEO Steve Gotberg says he was golfing with one of James Ragan's close friends for a TOKC event when the idea to team up was introduced.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A very special event was held in our community with the promise of hope for children with cancer.

The Triumph Over Kid Cancer Foundation teamed up with the DK Foundation and Snoopy's at Sunset Island to introduce Sunset Bells. For 365 days, each evening at sunset, the Sunset Bell will ring for hope and joy for kids with pediatric cancer.

You'll be able to hear that sound of strength out on the pier between Snoopy's and The Pearl.

For the month of October, Julian Galloway is ringing the bell, joined by his family fighting alongside him.

"They fight it with a really, really good attitude," Father of TOKC founders James and Mecklin Ragan, Jim Ragan shared, "They have a good attitude through extraordinarily difficult times and if there are people deserving of other people getting together to try to bring hope and joy to them, it's a great thing."

Ragan said the foundation is deeply appreciative to Sunset Island for the partnership. One that came about when CEO Steve Gotberg was at an event held by TOKC. Gotberg said he was golfing with one of James Ragan's close friends when the idea to team up was introduced.

"If we're gonna ring the bell, there's a chance to partner with an organization that's bringing awareness to kid cancer as well as fundraising to raise funds to help defeat kid cancer," Gotberg said.

Along with the Sunset Bell, the second Thursday of each month will be dedicated to raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer research in our community.
