CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) — A man was killed in an officer involved shooting just after midnight Wednesday as police responded to an apparent home invasion at an apartment complex in Corpus Christi's southside.
Two Corpus Christi Police Department officers have been placed on paid administrative leave as a result of the shooting -- Sr. Officer Gilbert Cantu and Officer Gabriel Cantu.
It happened at a complex in the 2300 block of Capitan Drive, near Wilderock. The Corpus Christi Police Department had received reports of a possible shooting and when they arrived, three suspects were seen attempting to flee the scene. Police said at least one of the men was armed with a long gun and was shot by police.
Police said one suspect, identified by the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office as 34-year-old Adan Renee Marrero, was killed at the scene.
A 25-year-old suspect identified as Michael Guzman was detained at the scene and arrested for burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony, possession of marijuana, failure to identify as a fugitive, a warrant for failure to appear in court, and evading arrest.
Another male suspect, believed to be between 20-30 years old, fled on foot and is still at large.
According to police, the suspects had physically assaulted several residents of the apartment complex prior to the officers' arrival and were in the process of taking property from the victims. At least one firearm was used and was recovered at the scene.
