Suspects fire several rounds into Armon Bay Apartments early Tuesday morning

A CCPD lieutenant told 3NEWS as many as 20 shell casings appeared to belong to a rifle but could not confirm it with certainty.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Police released new details about a shooting that took place at the Armon Bay Apartments early Tuesday morning.

Authorities said they were called to the 6900 block of S. Padre Island Drive near Nile Drive and Missouri Street for a report of shots being fired into and around a unit at the apartment complex.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle-- a silver pickup-- but they say the driver refused to stop and fled the scene before police initiated a pursuit.

Other officers stayed behind to conduct a welfare check on the residents at the original location, where they recovered more than 30 rifle casings along the sidewalk and in the grass. There were no injuries reported.

The vehicle continued to evade officers, and the pursuit was stopped for safety reasons. Police located the abandoned vehicle in the area of Culver Street and Darcey Drive. The car was impounded, but its occupants are unknown and were not located.

Investigators say the passengers in the vehicle were able to escape and no one was hurt.

CCPD has not released a vehicle or suspect description, and they say that is unknown at this time if the parties involved in this incident were known to each other.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. If you have any information in reference to this incident, please call detectives at 361-886-2840.
