Tar balls wash up along Padre Island National Seashore

Experts said oil-based products can help remove the tar from your skin -- things like Baby Oil or even butter.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — There were some unpleasant visitors on Padre Island beaches Tuesday morning. They tend to go away for a while but now they are back and just as nasty as ever -- tar balls.

The tar balls have been spotted washing up along the Padre Island National Seashore.

The blobs of tar are dirty and tough to get off your feet if you step on them. They began showing up over the weekend, dotting the beach.

Usually, tar balls that wash up on shore are pretty hard, but these ones are soft and beachgoers have been getting them on just about everything -- and the tar is hard to remove.

Experts said oil-based products can help remove the tar from your skin -- things like Baby Oil or even butter.

Officials said this case seems to be mild, and that the tarballs are more of a nuisance than anything else. The good news is that park ranger at the National Seashore said there have not been any more washing up since the weekend.
