PORT ARANSAS (KIII NEWS) — At Roberts Point Park over 50 teams took off in in search of the perfect redfish.
“Redfish is just a sport fish everyone likes to fish for. They pull real hard. A lot of them and that's what I think the draw is to them,” Keith Green says, Redfish Tour Director.
Teams of two set out early Saturday morning in order to find a fish no larger than 28 inches and no smaller than 20 inches.
The fishermen and women come from all over the United States just to fish in Port Aransas.
We've been coming here for about 14 years it's a stop that we always come to because the fish is so good and the support that the anglers give us is always so good,” Green says.
Some might be weary of coming to the island post-Hurricane Harvey.
But Shelley Mayer with the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce says not only are business up and running again, but Harvey made a positive impact on fishing.
“Oh it's brought lot of fish,” Mayer says. “If there is one thing good about a hurricane, and typically you want a small hurricane, it will totally clean out the waters and bring in the fish.
And bring in the fish it did.
After a long day of being out on the sea. The competitors lined up to measure their catch.
And this year’s winners were Andy Bryant and Rudy Keilman.
