Texas A&M-CC president expresses sorrow over Caleb Harris outcome

The A&M-CC community banded together to find Caleb Harris when he went missing, a fact university president Kelly Miller takes pride in.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi President Kelly Miller released a statement expressing the school's sadness over Caleb Harris' death Thursday morning.

Harris was a student at the university when he was last seen in the overnight hours March 4. 

In the hours and days following his disappearance, his roommates along with other students and classmates organized search parties and efforts to try and find him, even dedicating part of their Spring Break for the effort.

"I want to express my gratitude to everyone in our community who did what they could to find Caleb," Miller writes in the statement. "From joining search parties to sharing social media posts, the outpouring of support was truly remarkable."

She adds that the school has counseling services available for students and staff members, which include:

  • The University Counseling Center offers free counseling to all students and can be reached at (361) 825-2703. Press 2 to talk with a counselor after-hours.

  • Faculty and staff have access to our Employee Assistance Program which offers 24/7 support, resources, and information for employees and retirees.
  • Nationwide, anyone can call the Mental Health Hotline, 988, to connect with resources and information.

She ends the statement by saying he will be honored at a remembrance ceremony in the upcoming fall semester.
