CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Traffic has reopened on Interstate 37 after a flatbed truck hit the bottom of the Carancahua Street overpass, causing damage and closing the I-37 and State Hwy. 286 approaches to US Hwy. 181 on Monday.
Corpus Christi Police Department officers said the truck driver was trying to get onto 181 from 37 when he hit the overpass, cracking it.
Texas Department of Transportation engineers were on-site evaluating the damage, and the approach from State Hwy. 286 also was closed as a precaution, detouring and delaying traffic for several hours Monday afternoon.
No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, and officers said the driver received several tickets. He also will be facing TxDOT fines, they said.
