CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) — Organizers of the annual Tuba Christmas celebrated 29 years of bringing the sounds of the season to the Coastal Bend Friday with their own twist.
More than 100 tuba and baritone players took over the main room of Plains Capital Bank downtown to play your favorite Christmas tunes. Organizers said it is a special way to get the community into the holiday spirit.
It's also special for the players -- playing in such large groups is a first for many since most baritone ensembles only play in groups of two.
"To me it's overwhelming. We have people travel four or five hours to come here and play," Coordinator Dan Sipes said. "We have people from the Valley, people from the Hill Country, and people from Dallas. So they just want to do this really bad, so I'm really happy I can facilitate it."
The performers said it is a way to honor the traditional Christmas hymns and carols.
