CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two elderly men were hit by vehicles and killed after not using crosswalks within a recent 12-hour period.
Samuel DeLeon is dead after being hit at about 5:50 a.m. Wednesday in the 4900 block of Ayers Street, while the second man, Donald Davila, was hit in the 1100 block of Waldron Road at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Corpus Christi Police Department Public Information Sr. Ofc. Jennifer Collier said Wednesday that officers attempted live-saving measures at both scenes, but both men died at local hospitals.
Traffic investigators said the 76-year-old DeLeon tried crossing Ayers Street outside of the crosswalk before dawn when he was hit. The 67-year-old Davila also was trying to cross the street, this time from a private drive, without using a crosswalk.
Both drivers remained at the scene following the accidents, and neither was ticketed.
