Sip sip hooray! Two new live music venues to open this summer on the coast

Calypso Drive and Dive on The Island and Sip Yard in Port Aransas plan to bring good food, cold drinks and local talent to their locations this summer.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Whether you're a local or visitor headed to the Coastal Bend this summer some new hot spots are ready to check off the boxes for live music, good eats and tasty drinks.

Adam Rios is a consultant for Calypso Drive and Dive, the newest hangout on the other side of the JFK Bridge.

According to Rios, the community has already been showing up big during their soft opening stage, which is located in the old Sonic. There's no roller skates but they are serving up a good time.

"We build a nice stage, created an amphitheater and now we have live music," Rios said.

He said the owners wanted to create a relaxed area for people to come enjoy pub food, and good drinks while listening to local talent. Whether that's hanging out or driving through.

"We will have a drive thru not only for food but for alcohol as well," Rios said. "We are licensed and permitted to do that, and I believe that's going to be a very unique feature we will be offering here at Calypso Drive and Dive.

There's more good vibes where that came from. Just 20 miles away in Port Aransas,
another venue,  Sip Yard, is set to open their doors to kick off summer

"This is about an acre-and-a-half property, and it consists of six different restaurants," part-owner Daniel Johnson said.

Johnson said the three-story music venue is also equipped with a bar on the first two floors as well as an observation deck on top.

He says in the next couple of weeks the final touches should be complete, and they hope to bring in some big names to the small island and be a place families can gather.

"We could have come here and done a set of condos or something like that and cashed out, but that's not what the town is needing, it's not what the locals are needing," Johnson said. "This way it can benefit the tourist and locals as well."
