PORT ARANSAS, Texas — The University of Texas Marine Science Institute campus in Port Aransas received financial help thanks to a federal grant.
The campus will receive A $5 million grant as part of a partnership between the Economic Development Administration and Congressman Micheal Cloud. The money will help the university in the rebuilding process following Hurricane Harvey.
According to professors with the institute, their Center for Coastal Ocean Science Department suffered extensive damage with more than $45 million worth after the storm.
"A $5 million chunk is pretty significant. It means we can bring to life one of our more important buildings that will house marine and environmental scientists who are investigating chemical communication in our coastal waters."
3News was informed that the grant would be matched with $1.25 million in local investment funds.
