CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A city of Corpus Christi Solid Waste Truck is being blamed for a strong gas odor spread throughout the city.
City officials tell 3NEWS that’s because the truck was leaking a chemical known as mercaptan into the garbage compartment.
The chemical is added to natural gas to give it a smell.
The smell was first reported in the Lamar Park area just after 3:30 p.m. City crews later caught up with it around 4:15, and sent the truck back to the solid waste department for inspection.
